Orillia club updates medal design

The Champlain Coin Club (CCC) has updated its 60th anniversary medal project since choosing a preliminary design this November (“Orillia club votes on medal,” CCN Vol. 59 #20).

The tentative design used a copyrighted photograph of the Orillia Opera House, a famous landmark in the club’s hometown of Orillia, Ont., with white lines and spaces representing the facets of a cut diamond, a nod to the group’s diamond anniversary.

“The original design was submitted to the club with the up-front statement that a new photo taken by a member of the club would be required as the one in the original design was only used as a proof of concept,” Brent Mackie, the medal’s designer, told CCN.

A local CCC member has since provided a new photograph of the Opera House to Mackie, who then updated the medal design.
