The Central Bank of the Russian Federation issued commemorative silver bullion coins celebration cartoon heroes late last month.
According to a statement issued by the bank’s press service, two silver Proof three-rouble coins and four 25-rouble base metal coins were issued as part of the “Legends and Tales of Russian Folks” series.
The silver coins have a weight of 31.1 grams, a diameter of 39 mm and a mintage 3,000 pieces for each design. The coins’ rims are raised on both sides along the circumference, the coins’ edges are corrugated.
The obverse side of the silver coins bears an image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. The inscriptions include “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), “3 РУБЛЯ” (3 ROUBLES), the year-date “2017” and the metal content, purity and Saint Petersburg mint mark.
The reverse side of the “Three Heroes” coin (shown below) depicts an image of three heroes in colour against an ancient town. There is an inscription “ТРИ БОГАТЫРЯ” (THREE HEROES) along the top.
The reverse of the “Winnie the Pooh” coin (shown below) depicts a scene from the cartoon with Winnie the Pooh and Piglet in colour. There is an inscription “ВИННИ ПУХ” (WINNIE THE POOH) along the top.
BASE METAL COINS
The 25-rouble base metal coins have a diameter of 27 mm and a mintage 500,000 pieces (including 50,000 pieces in a special edition). The rim is raised on both sides, and the edges are corrugated.
The obverse side of the base metal coins (shown below) depict the same image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and similar inscriptions regarding its metal content, purity and year-date.
The reverse of the “Three Heroes” coin (shown below) depicts the same inscription alongside an image of three heroes against an ancient town.
The special-edition “Three Heroes” coin depicts that image again (shown below), this time in colour.
The base metal “Winnie the Pooh” coin (shown below) also includes the same inscriptions as well as a scene from the cartoon Winnie the Pooh and Piglet.
Lastly, the special-edition base metal “Winnie the Pooh” coin (shown below) depicts the scene from in colour.
OTHER RUSSIAN ISSUES
The central bank also issued the following coins last month:
- a silver Proof one-rouble coin, “The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation”;
- two silver Proof three-rouble coins as well as two silver Proof 25-rouble coins in regular- and special-edition designs, respectively, both from the “Diamond Fund of Russia” series; and
- two silver Proof three-rouble coins and two base metal 25-rouble commemorative coins in a regular- and special-edition design from the “Russian (Soviet) animation” series.
Each of the coins is legal tender in the Russian Federation. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation has been issuing commemorative coins since 1992.
