Canadian artist Tony Bianco, who has designed more than 100 coins for the Royal Canadian Mint, is slated to speak on “the art of money” at the Orillia Museum of Art and History (OMAH) this week.
On May 8, Bianco will be joined by Robert Browne for the OMAH’s Carmichael Art History lecture, entitled “The Art of Money: Design of Canadian Coinage.”
Bianco will focus on modern coin design while Browne – a retired architect and the husband of Qennefer Hahn Browne, who initiated the Carmichael Art History lecture more than 10 years ago – will show a film about his wife’s father, iconic designer Emanuel Hahn.
The film was produced by the National Film Board and recently uncovered within numismatic circles. Hahn’s contributions to both Canadian coin and stamp designs between the wars emphasize the nation’s newfound strength. Hahn’s fame endures on the designs of the most common Canadian circulation coins.
Tickets to the lecture, which begins at 7:30 p.m. on May 8, are $15.
