Is this your collection?

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Surrey, B.C., is seeking the rightful owner of a coin collection seized during a 2018 investigation.

In December 2018, officers located a coin collection in a vehicle during a criminal investigation. Because the vehicle’s occupants failed to claim ownership of the collection, investigators believed the coins were stolen. Officers were also unable to find any reports of lost or stolen coins matching the description of the recovered collection, which included Canadian coins in three albums plus several rolls. The collection remained in police custody as charges related to the investigation went through the courts.

After sitting unclaimed for nearly three years, the coins were slated for a police auction; however, the Mounties have opted for one last public appeal to find the collection’s owner before it’s sold.

“Although this coin collection may not have significant monetary value, it may hold sentimental value to its rightful owner,” said media relations officer Corporal Vanessa Munn. “Looking at the collection, it is apparent that someone invested time into organizing and cataloguing the coins.”

If your collection was lost or stolen before Dec. 19, 2018, and you believe these coins are your property, you can contact the Surrey RCMP at 1-604-599-0502.
