Gold-plated coin peddled by proselytizing televangelist formerly convicted, imprisoned for fraud

A gold-plated coin featuring the side-by-side busts of U.S. President Donald Trump and King Cyrus II of Persia (also known as Cyrus the Great) is being peddled by televangelist Jim Bakker, who was convicted of fraud in 1988 before serving nearly five years of his original 45-year sentence.

This May, Bakker encouraged his viewers to purchase a coin – retailing at $45 – from Lance Wallnau, who also appeared on Bakker’s show and suggested the coin serves as a “point of contact” with God.

Wallnau claimed God spoke directly to him about the coins: “When I asked the Lord, ‘Why the coin?’ he said, ‘Because when you take the coin, it’s a point of contact.’ So your faith is being released with a million other believers to pray protection and peace and wisdom and counsel over the president of the United States and over his family. … That’s our point of contact every day. … They think we’re crazy, but we’re actually the saints.”

These prayers are necessary to re-elect Trump in 2020 and help win the “battle for the future of America,” Wallnau said, adding, “God’s begun a miracle. Let’s keep that miracle going.”
