The group of drugs known as analgesics includes gabapin. It is used to treat postherpetic neuralgia and diabetic peripheral neuropathy, which are both neuropathic pain conditions caused by injured nerves (persisting pain following healing of the rash due to shingles).
Pregabalin is also used to treat fibromyalgia-related pain (pain in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons). Additionally, it helps with central neuropathic pain management (pain from damaged nerves of the brain and spinal cord).
Damaged nerves can cause pain that is severe, searing, tingling, shooting, or numb. Pregabalin is considered to work in the brain to lessen the production of chemicals that cause pain, while its specific mechanism of action is unknown. Some persons may experience a reduction in pain as early as the first week of pregabalin therapy.
