For a second year. the Museum is featuring an exhibit of historical Canadian banknotes from 1820 to modern times. Our exhibit features banknotes from dozens of Canadian chartered banks including and many that no longer exist, “wildcats” and some that never existed (“spurious” banks)! Government banknotes are also on display starting from the first issue by the Dominion of Canada in 1870. Our exhibit includes some iconic examples of banknotes, such as from the Hudson Bay Company, Province of Canada and Province of Nova Scotia. We include unusual notes such as $4 bill, Devil’s face, municipal issues, Canadian banks overseas, Salt Spring Island notes, and examples of early counterfeit notes. Over 100 examples of historical banknotes are on display.
