Canadian paper money, token reported lost, possibly stolen

A U.S. Postal Service package containing three early Bank of Canada banknotes plus a pre-Confederation token was recently reported lost or stolen, according to the U.S.-based Numismatic Crime Information Center (NCIC).

Last scanned in Los Angeles, Calif., the package included:

  • a 1937 Series $100 note (BC-27c) in Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) Uncirculated-62 and with a serial number reading “B/J 4817282”;
  • a 1954 “Canadian Landscape” $50 note (BC-42b) in PMG Gem Uncirculated-65 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) and with a serial number reading “B/H 2103788”;
  • another 1954 Canadian Landscape $50 note (BC-42a) in PMG Gem Uncirculated-65 EPQ and with a serial number reading “A/H 7137623”; and
  • an 1857 Province of Canada one-penny token (PC-6D) in Numismatic Guaranty Corporation About Uncirculated-58 Brown (with the holder’s serial number reading “2811748-006”).
