Calgary club members celebrate victories at barbecue

Dozens of Calgary Numismatic Society (CNS) members met at a club barbecue this summer, where they celebrated their recent success in winning the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association’s “Club of the Year” honour for 2019 and 2020.

On Aug. 14, more than 40 members attended the community hall where the club typically holds its meetings. It was the club’s first meeting in several months and the first since receiving the Louise Graham Memorial “Club of the Year” Award from the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA).

“Everyone enjoyed the food, refreshments and the chance to get together and partake in some of the in-person fellowship that we have all missed,” said James Williston, an honorary life member of the CNS, who was one of the barbecue attendees. “It was great to see everyone and catch up.”

The club’s latest “Club of the Year” honour marks the ninth time the CNS has taken home the award since it was launched in 1986 in honour of long-time RCNA general secretary Louise Graham.

The award is given annually to the RCNA member club that “made the most significant overall achievement on behalf of its members and of the hobby,” according to the association’s officials.
