Aug. 30 marks anniversary of Canadian Currency Act

It was today, 163 years ago, that the British Parliament approved the Canadian Currency Act, specifying a conversion to decimal currency, and make the dollar legal tender, up to $10 per transactions.

Any new coins struck for Canada had to have the approval of the British Government.
