Auction recap: Canadian Numismatic Company Internet & Mail Auction

Prices include buyer’s premium

Last week, The Canadian Numismatic Company (TCNC) hosted a 524-lot mail and Internet sale featuring a range of numismatic material.

Among the top highlights of the May 30 sale were Lots 112A and 112B, which realized $2,891 after a pre-sale estimate of $3,250-$3,500. Part A included a 1999 platinum muskox four-coin set and part B included a 2001 platinum harlequin duck four-coin set, both of which came with $30, $75, $150 and $300 coins as well as the original box and certificate as issued by the Royal Canadian Mint.

Another highlight was Lot 439, a 1912 $5 DC-21c banknote in Canadian Coin Certification Service Very Fine-25. This Dominion of Canada note, with a serial number reading “B400896”, realized $1,652 after a starting bid of $850. Its pre-sale estimate was $1,750-$1,850.

Moving back to coinage, there was Lot 190, a 1928 George V five-cent in International Coin Certification Service (ICCS) Mint State (MS)-65. It realized $1,003 after a starting bid of $500 and an estimate of $1,150-$1,250.

Rounding out the highlights is Lot 185, another George V five-cent, this dated 1922, in ICCS MS-65. It realized $944 after a starting bid of $450 and an estimate of $1,000-$1,250.
