New Issue: U.S. Mint releases 225th anniversary silver four-medal set

The U.S. Mint began accepting orders for the American Liberty 225th anniversary silver four-medal set, the fourth and final product released this year to mark this milestone in the bureau’s history, on Oct. 19.

Minted in 99.9 percent silver, each medal bears a unique finish and mint mark of the respective U.S. Mint facility where it was produced:

  • San Francisco Mint’s “S” mint mark with a proof finish;
  • Philadelphia Mint’s “P” mint mark with a reverse proof finish;
  • Denver Mint’s “D” mint mark with a uncirculated finish; and
  • West Point Mint’s “W” mint mark with a enhanced uncirculated finish.

MODERN RENDITION

The medals feature a modern rendition of Liberty on the common obverse by Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designer Justin Kunz, whose design depicts a profile of Liberty wearing a crown of stars with the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “1792,” and “2017.” U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill sculpted the design.

The medals’ reverse by AIP Designer Chris Costello depicts a bold and powerful eagle in flight with its eyes toward opportunity and a determination to attain it. The inscription is “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso sculpted the design.

All four medals are encapsulated and placed in a custom-designed black presentation case and accompanied by a companion booklet.

Mintage is limited to 50,000 sets with orders limited of two sets per household.

The four-medal set is priced at $199.95 USD. To place an order, visit the mint’s online catalogue at catalog.usmint.gov/.
