As the holidays come to a close—and as we begin another year in numismatics—show season is about to continue.
First up for 2018 is the 63rd annual Florida United Numismatists (FUN) Convention to be held Jan. 4-7 at the Tampa Convention Center on 333 S. Franklin St. in Tampa, Fla. Organized by FUN, the four-day show will feature more than 600 dealer tables, an extensive competitive exhibition, 15 educational seminars, a children’s booth as well as a highly anticipated sale by Heritage Auctions.
Bourse hours are 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Jan. 4-6 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Jan. 7. The show is free to attend.
NEXT WEEK: 46th NYINC, UNIPEX 2018
Looking forward to next week, the 46th annual New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC) will be held from Jan. 11-14.
Among the highlights of the show will be the NYINC Auction hosted by Stack’s Bowers Galleries, which will offer a 1921 50 cents—widely known as the “King of Canadian Coins”—as Lot 20065 of the sale’s third session. Described as “excessively rare” in any grade, this example has a grade of Specimen-62 from the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). It’s the sole example at this designation (with only three examples certified finer) and has an opening bid of $27,000 USD and a pre-sale estimate of $45,000 USD-$60,000 USD.
Next week will also see the first Canadian event of the year, which is the 2018 Unipex Coin and Stamp Show, to be held on Jan. 12-14 at Montecassino Hotel on 3710 Chesswood Dr. in North York, Ont.
