The U.S. Mint has rebranded its online numismatic education outlet as the Coin Classroom after about 20 years as the “H.I.P. (History in your Pocket) Pocket Change.”
Following in the former site’s footsteps, the Coin Classroom will provide content about the U.S. Mint, coins, coin production and collecting through articles, videos, graphics and games. The educational content, including teacher lesson plans, is located at usmint.gov/learn/kids. The content is now targeted to children in kindergarten through grade four.
One new section, “Life of a Coin,” highlights how the mint creates and produces coins from their design to their circulation and finally their withdrawal.
The Coin Classroom also still offers free games, including “Coin Stamper,” “Counting With Coins” and “Gold Rush,” which teach counting, probability and other math skills plus numismatic knowledge.
