Two bas-relief Mercanti sculptures to be auctioned by PAN

U.S. Mint 12th Chief Engraver John Mercanti has created two bas-relief plaster sculptures that will be the highlight of the Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists (PAN) Benefit Auction on Oct. 26, during association’s annual banquet held in conjunction with the PAN Fall Coin Show and Convention on Oct. 26-28 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The first sculpture bears the likeness of Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt Jr., 26th U.S. president, alongside Mercanti’s signature.

“His work is world-renowned and this sculpture is a stunning example of his accomplished talent,” reads a statement issued by PAN.

The second sculpture depicts a bison.

BISON BAS-RELIEF

The second item depicts a majestic bison. A similar example with a mountain range in the background was auctioned at the previous PAN banquet; however, this sculpture does not have the mountain range but does include a small cactus. Mercanti also hand-signed this piece.

The PAN Banquet will be held at the LeMont Restaurant on top of Mount Washington overlooking a popular view of the City of Pittsburgh.

Tickets and additional details can be found on the PAN website at PANcoins.org.
