Trump issues one-ounce silver coin for $100

Donald Trump has introduced a new line of $100 commemorative coins, adding to a growing list of campaign merchandise that includes Trump-branded sneakers, Bibles, playing cards, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and even strips of the suit he wore during his booking in Georgia last year. These items are all part of his effort to raise funds for his 2024 presidential campaign, according to The Associated Press.

The latest product in Trump’s entrepreneurial collection is a silver coin featuring a profile of the former president on one side and the White House along with the words “In God We Trust” on the other. Marketed as “one ounce, .999 per cent silver medallions,” Trump took to Truth Social describing the coins as “the ONLY OFFICIAL coin designed by me – and proudly minted here in the USA.”

In a promotional video, Trump further highlighted the significance of the coins, stating: “This beautiful, limited-edition coin commemorates our movement, our fight for freedom, prosperity, and putting America first. We always put America first.” He emphasized that the coins are “more than just a collector’s item” and symbolize the “resilience and strength of the American people, our American patriots.” The value of the silver in the coin is about $31 USD.

Trump’s campaign, however, faces a financial challenge. In August, his team raised only a third of the funds brought in by his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris. Despite this, history has shown that financial disparity doesn’t guarantee outcomes, as seen in 2016 when Hillary Clinton, despite a significant cash advantage, lost to Trump, notes The Associated Press. The release of Trump’s commemorative coin coincides with a similar marketing push from the Harris campaign, which has rolled out a variety of campaign merchandise, including lawn signs, T-shirts, and mugs, according to The Associated Press.
