Some local clubs resume in-person meetings across Canada

After an 18-month pandemic hiatus, several Canadian coin clubs are returning to in-person meetings.

Members of the Regina Coin Club (RCC) resumed their monthly meeting schedule on Sept. 17, when about 20 people gathered for the group’s 558th meeting since its January 1953 formation. At the meeting, RCC President George Manz led a presentation on some “odd and curious money” he has collected, and members participated in a show-and-tell session, an auction and other club events. While the RCC was forced to cancel its fall show, slated for Oct. 2-3, officials are hopeful the club will be able to return to the bourse next spring.

In Ontario, the Brantford Numismatic Society hosted an in-person meeting on Sept. 19 – its first since February 2020 – while in Québec, Montréal’s Lakeshore Coin Club met on Sept. 21.

As COVID-19 caseloads remain low in most major cities across the country, and with most areas following a vaccine passport system, more clubs are soon expected to resume their public in-person meetings.
