New coin presents 'Look of the Games'

The Royal Canadian Mint has released two more non-circulating legal tender coins commemorating the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

The design, credited to the Vancouver Olympic Committee design team, is complex to say the least. The same design is used for both the gold and silver versions.

Named "Look of the Games," the coins combine images of both nature and urban settings.

The images are described as a series of inlays and overlays. The inlays show bubbles, salmon, fern, Gas Town brickwork, technology, rain, lattice, sea foam, fir trees, clouds, and ice. The overlays depict trees, an aboriginal canoe, and geese that transform into a kite.

The .9999 Fine gold coin has a denomination of $500, with a weight of 156.05 grams and a diameter of 60.15 millimetres. The mintage limit is 210.

The .9999 Fine silver coin has a denomination of $50, a weight of 157.6 grams, and a diameter of 65.25 millimetres. The mintage limit is 2,010.

Both have Proof finishes, with serrated edges.
