The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) has launched the “Change the Bill” campaign aimed at fostering reconciliation through art.
Part of the campaign includes a Change.org petition calling on Canadians to support “the recognition and representation of Indigenous women” on a Canadian banknote.
“Indigenous women have played an integral role in shaping the history and culture of Canada, yet they have been historically excluded from mainstream representation,” reads the petition. “It’s time for change. … By signing this petition, you are taking a stand for a more inclusive and equitable society for all Canadians.”

Since its launch in February, the petition has garnered more than 35,500 signatures as of mid-May.
