PCGS now recognizes Cameo, Deep Cameo for Canadian Proof-like, Specimen strikes

The Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) recently announced it will begin recognizing two new designations on two different strikes of Canadian coinage.

Effective September 1, PCGS began recognizing Cameo and Deep Cameo contrast on Mint State-60 and higher Canadian Specimen and Proof-like (PL) issues. The move was made in response to numerous requests from the Canadian numismatic community, according to Mike Sargent, director of world coin grading for PCGS, who added “Cameo” frosting is noted on full Proof issues—a designation now being extended to both Specimen and PL strikes.

‘LIGHT TO MODERATE FROSTING’

The “Cameo” designation will be added to coins that display “light to moderate frosting” on the main devices on both obverse and reverse.

The “Deep Cameo” designation will be reserved for those coins showing “heavy frosting” on the devices on both the obverse and reverse. Coins that display frosting on only one side will not receive any designation.

Collectors and dealers can now submit these coins to PCGS. For more information, contact PCGS Customer Service.
