The members of the Champlain Coin Club (CCC), based in Orillia, Ont., have voted on the medal design marking the club’s 60th anniversary in 2022.
At the club’s November meeting, members chose Brent Mackie’s design – featuring the Orillia Opera House – and approved a motion to produce the medallions in copper and silver.
The Orillia Opera House, one of the city’s most famous landmarks, will be shown with lines representing the facets of a cut diamond, marking the club’s diamond anniversary. Two maple leaves at the left and right sides signify the club’s “Canadian heritage, identity and national pride,” according to Mackie.
Club officials will soon make an announcement regarding the medal’s release date and price.
The club has a long history of issuing commemorative medals and tokens for various milestones, including its 50th anniversary in 2012 and its 25th in 1987. In 2017, the CCC also marked Canada’s sesquicentennial with a medal featuring the club’s namesake Samuel de Champlain.
