ONA tops 50 kits for young collectors

Since February, the Ontario Numismatic Association (ONA) has received more than 50 requests for free activity kits from collectors aged 17 and under—and there’s still time to apply before the March 28 deadline.

“After less than 24 hours of the contest being public, we have received 17 requests for kits,” ONA Secretary Cassidy Stroud told CCN on Feb. 19.

Two days later, that number had doubled, and by early March, young collectors from across the country had requested 50 kits.

Stroud is still inviting young collectors, ONA members or otherwise, to apply for the free kit by emailing cassidystroud@hotmail.com before March 28. Applicants must provide a name, mailing address, age and phone number to receive five foreign “mystery coins” through the mail.

The recipients will then be asked to research the coins and their issuing countries before answering a few questions.

After returning their answers by May 30 to Stroud, who’s also the national youth co-ordinator of the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association, all participants will be entered to win a prize of numismatic supplies.
