New Issue: Russian company mints Trump medals

Russian metalworking company Art-Grani has issued a low-mintage run of medals featuring U.S. President Donald Trump, the Statue of Liberty and the slogan “In Trump We Trust.”

Vladimir Vasyukhin, head of Art-Grani, said 45 medals were struck – 25 in silver; 15 in gold and silver; and five in gold – in commemoration of the new president’s inauguration. They are being sold for about $10,000 USD.

“There are more hopes associated with Trump with regards to the lifting of sanctions; maybe the environment will change,” Vasyukhin told the Associated Press Television News.

On one side, alongside the Statue of Liberty, an inscription reads “United States of Amerika” and the slogan “In Trump We Trust.” The opposite side depicts Trump’s right-facing bust and the inscription “Donald John Trump” and “45 The President United States of Amerika.”

The medals, which have a diameter of 120 mm, a weight of 1,000 grams and a thickness of 3.6 mm, are similar to other medals struck by Art-Grani featuring Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Trump has repeatedly praised Putin, describing him as a “very smart” leader, and suggested in an interview on Jan. 16 he would ease some sanctions against Russia.
