New Issue: RCM unveils 2018 Gold Maple Leafs, Silver Maple Leafs

The Royal Canadian Mint recently unveiled its latest Gold Maple Leaf and Silver Maple Leaf bullion coins, which are stuck from .9999 pure gold and .9999 pure silver, respectively, and have earned widespread praise on the numismatic market.

Gold Maple Leaf coins are available in a variety of sizes and denominations (one ounce; half-ounce; quarter-ounce; 1/10th-ounce; 1/20th-ounce; and one gram) making them an affordable avenue of investment for bullion collectors. Silver Maple Leafs are known for having the market’s highest silver content, something which also adds collectibility.

DESIGN & SECURITY

The coins’ common reverse depicts the maple leaf, Canada’s national symbol, alongside engravings of the country name, coin size and gold purity. The coins’ common obverse presents the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscriptions of coin’s face value, year-date and monarch name.

The coins are also lauded for their security features. The 2018 pieces include uniquely designed marks on the coin’s reverse—a small textured maple leaf, micro-engraved with laser technology—that’s encoded, scanned and recorded at the Mint for future authentication, a process known as Bullion DNA.

Individual Silver Maple Leaf coins come in plastic flip holders while individual Gold Maple Leaf coins come sealed in plastic. These coins are legal tender in Canada.
