Every year, a one-twentieth-ounce Gold Angel coin is released by Pobjoy Mint on behalf of the Isle of Man to celebrate the Christmas season. Only a limited number of these unique coins are struck with a special privy mark, which changes on an annual basis.
This year’s Gold Angel is slated to be the final Christmas Gold Angel issued by Pobjoy Mint on behalf of the Isle of Man.
The coin’s design depicts the Archangel Michael slaying the Dragon. It’s one of the world’s foremost bullion coins and since medieval times has been thought to bring good luck and health to the bearer. First issued in 1984, the design on the coin is only the third Angel design in the coin’s history.
CUSTOM PRIVY MARK
This year’s limited-edition coin bears a custom privy mark on the reverse representing gold, frankincense and myrrh. These were the very first Christmas Gifts offered by The Three Kings in Christian tradition.
Each coin has been struck four times to display finely sculpted frosted detail contrasting with a mirror brilliant background. Available in Proof 999.9 per cent Fine gold, the coin has been approved by Buckingham Palace and bears a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Man, by Ian Rank-Broadley.
