New $1 coin honours Supreme Court’s 150 years of justice

The Royal Canadian Mint has launched a new $1 circulation coin celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada, symbolizing its enduring role in upholding the Constitution and protecting the rights of Canadians.

Unveiled April 8 inside the Court’s Ottawa building, the coin features the building’s façade overlaid with a commemorative logo, and is available in both coloured and non-coloured versions. Designed by Ontario artist Silvia Pecota, the reverse also includes bilingual inscriptions, while the obverse features the effigy of King Charles III.

“The Supreme Court of Canada is a strong pillar of Canada’s democracy,” said Chief Justice Richard Wagner, who attended the unveiling alongside Mint president Marie Lemay.
