George Michael fans can now own a timeless piece of music history, as the Royal Mint unveiled a collectable coin Feb. 26 celebrating the British singer-songwriter.
In a fitting tribute, the coin features Michael’s signature look and music from Faith, the second single from his debut solo album of the same name. The coin is the latest in the Royal Mint’s Music Legends series, following the likes of David Bowie, Elton John and Queen.
Designed by artist and sculptor Sandra Deiana, the collectable coin portrays the famous headshot of Michael wearing his trademark sunglasses and an engraving of the refrain of Faith. Black and red, used prominently on his album artwork and videos throughout his career, feature on a selection of the collectables. Michael’s estate has officially approved the coin and follows celebrations of Wham!’s Last Christmas reaching number one on the U.K. charts 39 years after its initial release.
