Members of the Canadian Tire Collectors Club (CTCC) have received special $1 notes issued by Canadian Tire for its 100th anniversary.
Donated to the club this spring in English and French varieties, the notes come from a limited printing of 2,000 examples originally “earmarked for internal corporate VIPs,” according to a statement from the CTCC, “so they are quite rare.” The corporation decided to donate the notes – available to one membership per household – to recognize “all the commitment and support” the CTCC has shown the Canadian Tire money program.
The club has also used the donation to recruit new members, who will also receive an example after registering with the CTCC.
“We have always had a very good working relationship with our corporate owners,” according to the CTCC, which received a letter this spring from some Canadian Tire executives responsible for managing the corporation’s rewards program.
CANADIAN TIRE MONEY PROGRAM UPDATE
The letter also updated the club on the corporation’s Canadian Tire money program, which from March to July 2020 was discontinued as a health and safety measure during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While redemption resumed in July 2020, issuance has remained off – a decision the corporation has decided to make permanent.
“Redemption will remain on indefinitely so customers can continue to use their paper ‘money’ in Canadian Tire stores.”
The corporation plans to issue commemorative non-redeemable collector bills in the future.
“The corporate plan is to stay connected, and to support the Canadian Tire Collectors Club, and the collectors, as they evolve the program into a commemorative model.”
