The University of Calgary’s Nickle Galleries has teamed up with the local Calgary Numismatic Society for a free two-day symposium, “Power, Identity and Alexander the Great.”
The symposium, slated for April 29-30, will mark the end of the Nickle Galleries’ exhibition, “The Birth of Portraiture: Alexander the Great and His Successors,” curated by Marina Fischer.
The symposium’s speakers include:
- CCN’s Mike Walsh, the owner of Trajan Publishing;
- Bank of Canada curator David Bergeron;
- artist Susan Taylor, who’s also a retired Royal Canadian Mint senior engraver;
- ancient numismatic expert Terence Cheesman;
- military historian and classicist Carolyn Willekes, who teaches at Mount Royal University; and
- numismatic educator François Rufiange.
The event runs from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. followed by a reception on April 29 and from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 30.
