The Canadian Numismatic Company (TCNC) is preparing to host one of Canada’s most extensive numismatic auctions of the year, the Prominence XI Sale, from Nov. 22-27, 2024.
Spanning six sessions, this auction will feature over 2,500 lots of coins, banknotes, tokens, and military medals, drawing contributions from more than 115 consignors across North America.
The event’s first four sessions are dedicated to three notable collections: the “Saulner Collection,” offering a range of Canadian banknotes; the “Newfoundland Collection” of Maritime coinage; and the “Hunt Collection,” featuring tokens and related historical items. Additionally, the auction’s militaria section includes rare war medals from Canada and France, expected to attract significant attention from collectors of military memorabilia.
Among the highlights are several important pieces that reflect Canada’s numismatic heritage, such as an 1814 Indian Chiefs Medal issued under George III, a unique item from Canada’s early colonial history; a 1924 $5 banknote featuring Queen Mary in Choice Uncirculated condition; and a 1936 Canadian silver dollar graded PCGS SPECIMEN-67. Other Canadian rarities include an 1862 New Brunswick 10-cent coin in Mint State-66, an 1889 25-cent coin in Choice Mint State-62, and a 1954 Replacement Series note featuring the “Devil’s Face” design.
The auction will also feature sought-after U.S. silver and gold coinage and a variety of Specimen and Proof-Like coins. Among the highlights in this category are a rare 1927 $50 Royal Bank of Canada note bearing the “Neil Signature” and a high-grade 1937 $1,000 note in Gem Uncirculated-67.
Marc Verret of TCNC described the Prominence XI Sale as “one of the most prestigious numismatic events of 2024,” noting that several items will make their public debut. He expressed gratitude to consignors for allowing TCNC to bring these pieces to the auction block, adding that this sale is expected to draw collectors and historians alike.
The Prominence XI Sale offers a unique opportunity for bidders, marking a rare chance to acquire items from private collections that highlight Canada’s numismatic history and North America’s broader heritage.
