The Oct. 24-25 Torex show and auction have been cancelled due to COVID-19.
The move comes as a handful of small coin shows across Canada are bringing collectors back to the bourse; however, major shows such as Torex continue to be cancelled due to their size and national draw.
“COVID-19 has seriously impacted the numismatic industry and has made it impossible for shows like Torex to operate,” said Brian Smith, show owner and executive director. “All major shows have been forced to cancel this year since the global pandemic began.”
Smith cites the Canada-U.S. border closing, the Atlantic Canada “regional bubble,” which requires a two-week quarantine for returning residents, and “the legitimate fear of the threat of the virus on health” as the main reasons why major numismatic events continue to be scrapped.
This summer’s Torex show, slated for June 27-28 in Toronto, was also cancelled due to COVID-19.
