More than 500-lot auction to be held Aug. 18 with lot viewing today in Ottawa
Sean Isaacs, the owner of Almonte, Ont.’s Alliance Coin and Banknote, is hosting his company’s third annual public auction in the concert hall of Almonte’s old town hall on Aug. 18.
With more than 500 lots, the sale offers “great diversity, ranging from Canadian and world coins and notes to tokens, medals and odd and curious collectibles,” said Isaacs, who has been in the numismatic business since 1988.
“Our first two sales have been quite successful, I think due in large part to making it an ‘event’ rather than just a sale.”
Following in the footsteps of the first sale, which saw 50 bidders on the floor, the upcoming auction will feature lots “for every budget,” said Isaacs, with many offerings in the $20-30 range plus a few “tougher or more exotic lots” in the $1,000-plus range.
Among the top highlights is a “very rare” 1987 Olympic $100 gold coin without edge lettering. Estimated at $2,220-2,400, it is, to Isaac’s knowledge, the only example to ever cross the auction block since he discovered the variety almost 30 years ago.
Other highlights include an “attractive” 1714 English Queen Anne crown coin certified as Fine-15 and with an estimate of $400-500 as well as a “lovely” 1912 $5 “Train” note in Banknote Certification Service Very Fine-30 and with an estimate of $1,800-2,000.
Lot viewing will be held today at the Ottawa Coin and Stamp Dealers Association monthly bourse show, which will be held at the RA Centre, the same venue as Orapex.
Alliance Coin and Banknote charges no buyer’s premium in its sales.
